Hamburg Calling

Recording Insight: Vocal Pitch
We finished recording last month and currently our producer and recording engineer Jochen has started cleaning up the recording files and mixing the songs. We weren’t able to show much of the recording process, so we’re glad we can let you guys have little insight into the process with the example of Western Gold. This was Benjamin’s first take on the second verse of Western Gold:

At this point we began playing around with the different pitches of his vocal range. The first one is obviously higher, but we were curious to hear how the verse might sound at a lower pitch. This is his second attempt at the second verse bit:

We really liked the way it improved on the dynamics of the song, taking a step back a little in the first few bars and then getting back to the higher pitch in the folloinwg bars of the verse. We compared both versions several times, but because of the energetic feel of the song we decided to stick to the higher pitch, which suits Benjamin’s voice better anyway.
Working on the album demanded all our focus, so we kind of forgot to document the whole process. However, we keep digging through our files and we will try to show some further insights in one of the next posts. Stay tuned.
Crossing The Tan Line
Heute ist es wieder soweit: den dritten Song aus unseren Demo-Aufnahmen für das nächste Album könnt ihr hier auf unserer Demo-Seite oder auf MySpace anhören! Erstaunlicherweise finden wir nach wie vor noch Zeit zum live spielen. Am 10.4 werden wir im AZ Mülheim mit Ill Colours und Narcolaptic spielen, am 15.4. gibt es dann noch eine entspannte Akustikshow im KKC Essen.
